Anglolang is a British Council-accredited, Quality English school which has recently been voted the Best English Language School in Northern England (English Language Stars 2015) and awarded the title of Centre of Excellence (EL Gazette 2015).
Our school is located in the traditional seaside town of Scarborough on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast of England. As well as enjoying Scarborough’s beauty, Anglolang students also enjoy the convenience of being able to walk everywhere in the town, without the need for public transport. For example, it takes 15 minutes to walk to the town centre and the beach from the school.
Anglolang has provided quality English courses for individuals, families and groups since 1984. Our courses include Intensive English, Business English, Teacher Training, Summer Vacation, Family Courses, Examination Preparation (IELTS, Cambridge, GMAT and TOEFL) and English plus Golf.
Courses are delivered in our 19th Century English building, which has a spacious interior with modern facilities. All classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards which make lessons more motivating, engaging and up-to-date. Throughout the school, WiFi is available free of charge and we also have a computer room. Our 4k on-site private cinema shows the latest films regularly to our students, helping to improve listening skills. Anglolang’s orangery style café provides a comfortable place to make new international friends and enjoy snacks as does our large garden.
With a dedicated team and a friendly and professional atmosphere, all students can receive individual attention while studying at Anglolang. In our British Council inspection 2015, strengths were noted in our care of students and care of under 18s, as well as accommodation, leisure opportunities and staff management, premises and facilities, learning resources and academic management. Feedback consistently states that students have a great time while studying at Anglolang and they enjoy our social programme which offers a wide range of activities, such as sports, dancing, theatre visits, discos and excursions to local towns and cities.

Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Scarborough. These homes are often between 1 - 20 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
Staying in an English home is the best way to practise English and experience the British way of life, sharing the social life of the family, such as mealtimes and conversations. Hosts help our students to feel at home in their new surroundings by providing a genuine warm welcome and comfortable environment. Homestay accommodation also offers good value for money as breakfast, packed lunch and evening meals are provided every day. All our homestay accommodation is close to our school – often just a short walk, and never more than a 20-minute journey on foot. We take great care in selecting our homestay accommodation. We visit each host before using them, and continue to visit regularly. Being in constant touch with our hosts means that we get to know them very well and that also helps us to match students with hosts. If you choose homestay accommodation, you can expect: - a carefully chosen home to match your needs - to be treated as a member of the home during your stay - a single room if you are 18 or over (unless otherwise requested) furnished with a bed, storage, bed linen and towels - your host to do a reasonable amount of laundry for you each week - no two students with the same nationality in the same family (unless otherwise requested) - full board (breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal) - a key to the house (if you are over 18 years old) - the opportunity to learn more of the British way of life - a chance to practise English in social situations
We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from Anglolang. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.
If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged £ 50 when you register.
Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Scarborough based on your budget, schedule and preferences.
Study abroad worry-free with Language International's health and personal effects insurance coverage. When you book a course with us, you can opt to purchase an international insurance plan that covers not only your health care cost but also loss of your personal belongings. You must book your insurance in advance when you register.
Anglolang is located in the traditional seaside resort of Scarborough on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast. Scarborough has been the destination of choice for tourists since the 17th Century. It is the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast, where a warm welcome meets every visitor. Scarborough has everything that is expected of an established British seaside resort which is rich in history, culture and charm. It has something to offer for everyone. It is a medium-sized town with a population of around 100,000. Unlike some larger cities, it is possible to walk to most destinations. Our students do not have the inconvenience and additional cost of having to use public transport. Anglolang is a ten minute walk from the beach and the town centre. The town has two magnificent bays dominated by a medieval castle. The area around Scarborough is well-known for its beautiful scenery: along the coast; on the nearby moors; and also in some large areas of forest. It is ideal for walking or just enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the countryside. In addition, there are many small and attractive towns and villages nearby where you can find historic buildings and glorious views or you can simply enjoy a meal and a drink in a traditional British pub. In Scarborough itself, apart from the castle, there are several museums, including the Rotunda, which celebrates the work of William Smith, recognized as the ‘father’ of modern geology. There is also a delightful Art gallery, which hosts a variety of exhibitions and activities. For those who enjoy the theatre, Scarborough offers the world-famous Stephen Joseph Theatre. This is a 400 seat theatre ‘in the round’, which keeps all of the action close to the audience. The acclaimed playwright, Sir Alan Aykbourn, produces all of his plays at the Stephen Joseph Theatre before they transfer to London. There is a thriving local music scene with bands playing at many of the pubs and clubs throughout the week, whether your taste is for jazz, folk Indie rock, or even karaoke! And if you feel hungry there are restaurants and cafes catering for most tastes, from Mexican and Thai to Indian and Italian, not to mention the traditional fish and chips. If you enjoy sports, you can surf, canoe or windsurf in either of the bays, or you can keep your feet dry and go walking or camping. You could try off-road driving or even join a llama trek. But if you prefer watching to taking part, you can follow the fortunes of Scarborough football and rugby clubs or, in the summer, become an expert on the very English game of cricket and watch Yorkshire when they play in the Scarborough Cricket Festival. For those who want to experience more of Yorkshire, Scarborough is less than an hour by train from the wonderful city of York and two hours from the big city delights of Leeds, where you can find many of the same shops that are found in London.
