At Instituto Jovel, we have been teaching Spanish to students from all over the world since 1993.
We offer one-on-one Spanish instruction and group instruction. Our Spanish classes are set up to accommodate individual learning styles, personal interests, and preferences. All of our teachers are specially trained second language teachers, all Mexicans, but they all also speak fluent English, necessary sometimes to explain some concepts. Some of our students would like to learn “Survival Spanish” for their travels, other would like to study the language in all its complexities, others need their Spanish as bilingual teachers, physicians or other professions.
Jovel has partnerships with the following universities and colleges in Mexico. You can gain full or conditional acceptance into one of these institutions.
The nationality and age mix at Instituto Jovel varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 25. In the summer, the average age is 25.

Instituto Jovel is located at only 2 1/2 blocks from the main square. It is really close to the main services in downtown and closes to the main pedestrian streets such us Guadalupe and el Carmen. All the services are in walking distances from the school. It is in front of the Antigua Hotel.
I am at the beginners level and therefore really appreciated the 1:1 teacher student ratio. I appreciated the different focus of each teacher with one teacher more didatic on language structure and the other focused on conversation. I appreciated the teacher focused on conversation interest in me as a person! And, i also appreciate the more formal structure teacher preceded the teacher supporting conversation. Three hours of time was perfect! I don’t think i could have taken more than 3 hours per day.
The only thing that was not especially good was the tour of the archeology site. This is partly due to the fact that it was the first day it was open in three years so there were many speeches which i could not understand snd delays in starting the tour. There was no translation for the tour either so it meant 4 hours of listening without understanding! This was frustrating. Although the tour guide himself worked very hard i don’t think he should have been allowed to go on so long. We returned several hours later then scheduled. Next time i suggest a strong interpreter accompany the tour guide or tell people in advance it will be fully in Spanish.
Loved my two professors - Paco and Bianca. They were warm, patient, interesting, and prepared. They used a variety of methods to teach me - games, conversation, translation, grammar, etc. I learned a lot from them in a relatively short amount of time - two weeks. The facilities are beautiful and centrally located. The trip organized to Tonina was long but fascinating.
I booked my own hotel as can't comment on the housing.
